Wertewerkstatt

Between 20% and 25% of all kindergarten children are classified as showing behavioural issues; at least 5% need treatment (Textor, M.: Verhaltensauffällige Kinder, Kita-Handbuch 2021). The causes are diverse: besides genetic and family factors, peer relationships and daycare itself also play a role. The “Wertewerkstatt” project aims to promote healthy development through values education. The idea: consciously living different values together with children in various moments of everyday life. Concretely, the project rests on several pillars:

• Educationally valuable picture books focused on different values
• Companion materials for the picture books
• (Training) materials and method collections for parents and professionals
• Interactive readings of the books as events in educational institutions and at events

Each of the books is embedded in a comprehensive concept that, besides the story, also includes extensive companion material such as introduction ideas, suggestions for deeper engagement and background information. Through direct values education for children via picture books and interactive readings, as well as support for parents and professionals through companion and training materials, Wertewerkstatt works on several levels and addresses not only SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) but also SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).

For the business model we rely on the classic sale of books and training materials, while companion materials for the books are offered free of charge and thus provide an incentive to buy. In addition there is the paid delivery of interactive readings, which also spark interest in further books and materials.

In the near future, besides the (further) development of the books and materials, the focus is especially also on growing the team and expanding the network.

Overall, Wertewerkstatt offers a well-thought-out concept for early childhood values education that involves children, parents and professionals alike. In this way the project creates lasting value, in the short term for educational institutions and in the long term for society.
